The former Garda station and residence at Kilfinane is a detached two-storey property that sits on a site of circa 0.28 hectares.
The property takes the form of a two storey stone constructed building with a traditional cut (hipped roof) structure. The building is laid out on both floors with a central reception and landing area with two large rectangular rooms at either side of same. There are two lean-to type extensions; one to the rear which is connected to the building and one to the side which is not.
The former Garda station and residence occupies an area of approximately 308 sq. m/3,315 sq. ft (Gross Internal Area)
The building is understood to have been constructed in the 1830s and is recorded as a protected structure under RPS reference No. 1341.
The former Garda station and residence is located approximately 350m to the south east of centre of Kilfinane village. Kilfinane village is located on an elevated plateau south of the Ballyhoura Mountains, and it is the highest village in County Limerick.
It is located approximately 43 km southeast of Limerick city and is in close proximity to the Limerick – Cork & Tipperary border. To the east of the village are the Galtees and Slieve Reagh Mountains. To the north of Kilfinane lies the lowland pastoral region known as the “Golden Vale” that runs through Counties Limerick, Cork, and Tipperary.
